Three-dimensional documentation of selected exhibits from the museum collection

The Museum of King Jan III's Palace in Wilanów is carrying out long-term operations in the area of digitisation strategy, with the collaboration of, among others, the Faculty of Mechatronics of the Warsaw University of Technology. 3D scanning technology is used primarily for the purposes of documenting works of art. Thanks to this, the Museum has been carrying out precise three-dimensional documentation of national heritage objects for several years, in a very high spatial resolution. This is a powerful tool for conservators of art, historians and others interested in conducting detailed studies and analysis. The quality of the data will allow for its use not only in the present, but also for the coming decades. To date, more than 90 objects have been digitised in this form.

The current project envisions continuation of such activities. Previously, an appropriate adaptation of the cellars in the western part of the Orangery building was carried out for the development needs of the Three-dimensional Documentation Workshop of the Museum. In addition to a profession a digitisation workshop, appropriate amenities have been established, as well as a proper ventilation and fire protection system. The next digitisation as part of this project includes 14 objects, including the interiors of two rooms located in the palace. Why interiors? They are small, therefore their rich decoration cannot be shown to the wider public. The only possibility of displaying them and introducing them into scientific circulation is the development of digital documentation using 3D technology. The digitisation of these interiors will also enable the preparation of archival, conservation and presentation-and-information documentation. These procedures will also ensure the sustainability of the gathered data using state-of-the-art archival technologies through placing them on a stationary server as well as tape libraries in the museum. Therefore, the purchase of appropriate equipment is necessary as part of the project.
