Training for museum staff under the project “www.muzeach”

Training for those involved in the project “www.muzeach” is necessary. First of all, there needs to be technological consistency between the museum teams participating in the project. Both in management processes, digitisation, and the sharing of the completed mappings, metadata, or popularising descriptions, the same standards must be met in all five museums. This will enable easy integration with the common collection search engine in digital form. In addition, trainings give staff a chance to obtain the necessary knowledge and skills associated with, among others, digitisation and sharing of resources. This will allow for further development of the processes initiated under the project “www.muzeach.”

PRINCE2
The project is conducted in accordance with the PRINCE2 methodology, adapted to the peculiarities of museums. Therefore, training courses on the PRINCE2 project management methodology have been conducted. Employees involved in the implementation of the project “www.muzeach” from all partner institutions took part. This will ensure the necessary quality of management and communication within the project.

Colour management
In the process of digitisation of cultural heritage objects, it is very important to establish the best possible path to colour management. The goal is to create representations that are as close to the originals as possible. The introduction of a uniform procedure for the verification of digitisation effects for all participating institutions (based on a uniform type of models and similar quality of photographic equipment) allows for the optimal use of existing equipment and control of the digitisation process at all stages. Of additional value is the ability to generate reports via a specialised website and compare project results against the guidelines used by the largest institutions in the world. The introduction of this type of solution required the training of employees involved in the production, collection, and control of digital representations of objects.  As part of Colour Management trainings, the team responsible for the implementation of the task “Digitisation” learned the ways of optimal use of palettes and specialised software for managing and monitoring the digitisation process.

GIS (Geographic Information System)
Under the project, the GIS system will be implemented in the National Museum in Szczecin and the Castle Museum in Łańcut, and it will be expanded in the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów. GIS trainings will be conducted to cover basic and advanced use of the system. They will cover: entering and editing data, editing maps, performing analyses, publication of information, system administration, etc.

Network security
Providing an adequate level of data and IT systems security is extremely important in today’s IT projects. The project “www.muzeach” will produce large amounts of data. With the integration of museum systems, they will be made available online via the multisearch browser. Such a solution requires IT administrators to ensure a high level of security in all partner museums. Network security is guaranteed not only by the appropriate hardware and software resources, but also the implementation of security procedures and staff training. The training will broaden participants’ knowledge of IT system security. Particular attention will be devoted to securing, verifying, and testing IT systems and networks.

Project co-financed from European Funds and from the funds of the Ministry of Culture and National of the Republic of Poland. The project is implemented under the Operational Program Digital Poland for the years 2014-2020, Priority Axis 2 “E-government and open government,” Action 2.3 “Digital availability and usefulness of public sector information,” Sub-action 2.3.2 “Digital availability of culture resources.”
